First Sunday Drive – Burlingame to Sonoma Raceway

October 3^rd, 2021

On Sunday, October 3^rd, 2021. We are leading a First Sunday Drive, which we will be gathering at Leann’s Café in Burlingame at 7:00AM. Start the engines at 8:00AM. Our destination will be Sonoma Raceway, and we will be driving through the Golden Gate Bridge. Estimating the arrival time: 9:30AM at the Sonoma Raceway Corral.

*Spectators are fee. This is a charity event, and a portion of the registration fee will be donating to the Speedway Children’s Charities. Registered vehicles will be parking at a Corral exclusively for SFBA Mercedes-Benz Club. If you’d like to participate in both days, there will not be a Corral setup for SFBA Mercedes-Benz Club on Saturday, October 2^nd, 2021.

Our SFBA member, Joel Camarda will be our Private Racetrack Guide on Sunday to answer any questions you may have regarding the Sonoma Raceway and the Vintage Car racing history.

MBCA-SF Bay Area Section Board Meeting

This was the 3rd San Francisco Bay Area Board Meeting held this year. However, this was the 1st board meeting held in person since the pandemic. We really need our members to volunteer for several open positions and leading the coming events. We used this opportunity and had invited all the San Francisco Bay Area Section members who would be interested of helping our sections to come to this event.

A total of 16 participants showed up: 5 board members and 11 regular members.

The meeting divided into two portions; we had lunch between noon and 2 PM, and then conducted our meeting at 2PM for a duration of 90 minutes.

There were many topics to cover in the agenda; from approving the minutes, the reports from our section treasurer, the activity director to the membership director. We had nominated the members of the year, and several of our members have volunteered to step up for the positions. We also had assigned the events among the participants for the 2nd part of the year and for 2022.

The meeting was adjourned just 5 minutes over the schedule. - John Goode

Please join the Sierra Nevada section of the MBCA for a Historic Truckee Drive and Italian Food Dinner on September 18th. This event is being hosted by David and Tessy Albin. We will Drive from Reno to the Donner Museum where we will peer into the area's history. Afterwards, we will take a scenic drive out old highway 40 to the historic Rainbow Bridge overlooking Donner Lake. Then we will drive back to Truckee for an Italian dinner at Zano's Restaurant.

We will leave from the Starbucks at I-80 and Rob Drive (986 Ambassador Dr.) at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

It was a healthy turn-out. Our rendezvous and departure point was in Greenbrae. Our trip route was along winding roads over the Marin hills to Nicasio Valley, then to Western Petaluma and to Tomales Bay, and down the coast to Point Reyes Station. Of course there were cheese tasting stops:

Nicasio Valley Cheese Company; Marin French Cheese Company; and finally Cowgirl Creamery. - Joel Camarda

Ps. A total of 20 Mercedes-Benz, 3 Porsche, 2 Ferrari, 1 Acura and 1 Volkswagon vehicles, 50+ participants, and KUMA - our mascot showed up.

We’ll start our engines at 10:15AM. I strongly suggest that you come at 9 in the morning; have a cup of coffee and check out the Mercedes in the parking lot. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds – Mercedes, Coffee, and a Sunday leisurely drive?

This will be an approximately 1 and ½ hour drive through the beautiful scenery of Diablo, Blackhawk, and Tassajara.

The San Francisco Bay Area MBCA chapter held a phenomenal event at Canepa Motorsports located in Scotts Valley, CA.

The day started early with a Cars & Coffee gathering in the parking lot where a record setting 60 members arrived in over 40 Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Member’s cars ranged from a 1958 Ponton to a 2021 AMG GT and everything in between. Canepa displayed their new Brabus G63 700 6x6 alongside our cars to create a breathtaking visual collection of old and new.

The group then embarked on a 2-hour tour of the meticulous Canepa showroom, museum and restoration facilities. We were lucky to see two 300SL Gullwings among several other exotic classics being prepared for the 2021 Pebble Beach Concours.

With our hearts and minds filled to the brim, members proceeded to the Steel Bonnet Brewery for lunch with craft beers and enthusiastic conversations with our colleagues.

Safe to say, it was a fabulous event for our MBCA members and was enjoyed by all. A very special thanks to Mr. Bruce Canepa for his generosity by giving our members a no-limit tour for his collections at Canepa Motorsports, and especially, Mr. Sean Chambers for his excellent tour guidance throughout the day. - Ty McConney

July 2021 First Sunday Drive - Pescadero Creek

The drive can't come to a better timing! The heat wave came over to the San Francisco Bay Areas during the weekend of the July FSD, and the inland temperature reached up to 110 degrees.

We were saved by the drive and had escaped from the heat.

There were 20 plus Mercedes-Benzes, 34 people and 2 dogs showed up to this fantastic drive. We drove through the redwoods, and down to the coast with cool breezes coming from the coast.

Everyone including the dogs enjoyed the sunshine, and the picnic table style takeout lunch at Duarte's.
